Description

Melotte 15 is a spectacular but nameless emission nebula resting within the center of the heart nebula (IC 1805).  A deep dig unfortunately didn’t turn up any notable information - a common trend for emission nebulae.  Massive type OB stars at the center of the heart nebula are the source for the stellar winds and radiation that expand outwards and give IC 1805 it’s characteristic heart shape.  Thankfully, a little pillar of dust was left behind for us to image and enjoy.

As with all narrowband work, this absolutely falls into the experimental colour palette category.  Given that this is such a prominent Northern hemisphere target, looking forward to next season to capture this in broadband and highlight the incredible star colours that surround the pillars.
